Monica Nicoli received the M.Sc. in Telecommunication Engineering (Hons.) and the Ph.D. in Electronic and Communication Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, in 1998 and 2002, respectively. She was a Visiting Researcher with the Geophysics and Geology Research Unit, ENI-Divisione Agip, Italy, in 1998-1999 (6 months) and with the Signals and Systems Unit, Uppsala University, Sweden, in 2001 (6 months). In 2002, she joined Dipartimento di Elettronica Informazione e Bioingegneria (DEIB), Politecnico di Milano as a Faculty Member. Currently she is Associate Professor in Communications Engineering and a Member of the Core Faculty of the School of Management, Dipartimento di Ingegneria Gestionale (DIG), Politecnico di Milano. She holds the Italian national scientific qualification as Full Professor in Communications Engineering. She teaches “Localization, Navigation and Smart Mobility” and “Communication Technologies for Vehicles” at the School of Industrial and Information Engineering.
Her research interests are in signal processing, machine learning and wireless communication, with main focus onlocalization, connected mobility and IoT. On these topics she has co-authored about 200 international scientific publications (https://scholar.google.it/citations?user=r0qzdnUAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao).
She is a co-recipient of the Best Paper Awards at the EuMA Mediterranean Microwave Symposium (2022), the IEEE Symposium on Joint Communications and Sensing (2021), the IEEE Statistical Signal Processing Workshop (2018) and the IET Intelligent Transportatio Systems Journal (2014). She is also a recipient of the 1999 Marisa Bellisario Award and the 1999 SPE-EAGE Best Thesis Awards in Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences.
She is Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems. She also served as Associate Editor of the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking from 2010 to 2017, and as Lead Guest Editor for the Special Issue on Localization in Mobile Wireless and Sensor Networks in 2011.
